Wayne debuted in the film industry in 1960 as Lisa Angelica Dickinson in The Alamo, a historical adventure drama film.

The Alamo was a hit, winning seven awards, including the Academy Award, and receiving eight other nominations.

In 1961, Wayne played Bessie Marshall in the romantic action-adventure film, The Comancheros, which went ahead to bag two Academy Awards nominations.
